  6. EtherExpress(TM) PRO/100+ PCI LAN Adapter

  13. General Instructions
  14. --------------------

  16. NOTE: If you are running Novell NetWare* on this workstation, see the
  17.       Novell NetWare section of Hints and Tips below before continuing
  18.       with this installation.
  19.  
  20. 1  Double-click the Network Setup icon in the Network Group.
  21.  
  22. 2  If you are replacing a previous LAN adapter, click the Remove button
  23.    to delete that adapter.
  24.  
  25. 3  Click the Networks button. Select Install Microsoft Windows Network
  26.    and click OK.
  27.    
  28.    Optional: To add Novell NetWare support to this workstation, click
  29.          Other, then select Novell NetWare Shell 3.x if you are using
  30.          NETX, or select Novell NetWare Shell 4.x if you use VLMs. Click
  31.          OK.
  32.    
  33.    Optional: To share files and printers on this workstation, click the
  34.          Sharing button, then click on OK.
  35.  
  36. 4  Click the Drivers button.
  37.  
  38. 5  Click the Add Adapter button.  Select Unlisted or Updated Network
  39.    Adapter and click on OK.
  40.  
  41. 6  Insert the adapter driver disk in drive A and specify the path A:\WFW
  42.    for the location of the driver.
  43.  
  44. 7  Select the Intel EtherExpress PRO/100+ PCI adapter from the list box
  45.    and click OK.
  46.  
  47. 8  Specify the correct speed for your network.  If you are using the TX
  48.    based adapter, specify the correct duplex mode. If you are unsure of
  49.    the correct settings, contact you Network Administrator.
  50.    
  51.    Note: If you set the PRO/100+ TX adapter to FULL duplex and you are
  52.          running at 100 Mbps, you must change your speed setting to 100.
  53.    
  54.    Note: These options will not come up if you already have the NetWare
  55.          ODI driver installed.  These settings are set in the NET.CFG
  56.          file.
  57.  
  58. 9  The driver and default protocols will appear in the Network Drivers
  59.    window. If you need to add or remove a protocol, do so here.
  60.  
  61. 10 In the Network Drivers window, click Close.
  62.  
  63. 11 In the Network Setup window, click OK.
  64.  
  65. 12 In the Microsoft Windows Network Names window, enter a unique User
  66.    Name, the name of your new or existing Workgroup, and a unique
  67.    Computer Name for your workstation, then click OK.
  68.  
  69. 13 Choose Yes To All when WFW asks if you want to replace the files
  70.    currently installed with the versions you are installing now.
  71.  
  72. 14 Insert the WFW disks WFW asks for. If prompted for the NetWare files,
  73.    insert the Novell disk containing the drivers from the Novell file
  74.    WINDR3.EXE. If prompted for the path of E100B.386, insert the Intel
  75.    Configuration and Driver disk into a drive and for the path, type:
  76.       A:\WFW.
  77.    If prompted for the path of E100B.DOS, specify:
  78.       A:\NDIS
  79.  
  80. 15 When finished updating the files, WFW reports that it modified several
  81.    files. Click on OK. WFW changes your last drive to P:.  If you want to
  82.    change this setting, do so in your CONFIG.SYS file.  WFW also modifies
  83.    your NET.CFG file (for NetWare users).  Check this file to make sure
  84.    your frame types load in the correct order for your network.

  86. 16 When WFW prompts you to restart your computer for the changes to take
  87.    effect, click on Restart Computer.

  89. Hints and Tips
  90. --------------

  92. Novell NetWare
  93.  
  94. 1. Before you begin to install driver support for WFW and Novell NetWare
  95.    on the same workstation, you'll need these Novell NetWare files:
  96.    NETWARE.DRV, NETWARE.HLP, NWPOPUP.EXE, VIPX.386, and VNETWARE.386.  To
  97.    obtain these files, do one of the following:
  98.    
  99.    a  Download the self-extracting file WINDR3.EXE from Novell NetWire
  100.       forum on CompuServe or Novell's FTP server on the internet
  101.       (ftp.novell.com) or WWW
  102.       (ftp://ftp.novell.com/pub/updates/nwos/dsclnt12).
  103.    
  104.    b  Call Novell (1-800-NETWARE) to have the files sent to you.
  105.    
  106.    c  Contact a Novell NetWare dealer in your area.
  107.  
  108. 2  Set up the workstation to connect to NetWare using the DOS ODI client
  109.    driver.
  110.  
  111. 3  Load the ODI driver and login to your NetWare server.
  112.  
  113. 4  Start WFW and set up the driver for the EtherExpress PRO/100+ adapter
  114.    by following the instructions shown above. When the driver is chosen,
  115.    WFW detects the ODI driver is already loaded and automatically
  116.    installs the appropriate support.  Next to the adapter name in the
  117.    Network Drivers window, you'll see [ODI/NDIS3] which indicates it
  118.    recognized the ODI driver.

  121.    Sample PROTOCOL.INI:

  123.    Windows for Workgroups(WFW) creates the PROTOCOL.INI for you. This is
  124.    provided for reference. This is a sample with Microsoft NetBEUI and
  125.    IPX/SPX Compatible Transport with NetBIOS.
